Professional Development

The AED professional developments are designed as workshops geared towards assisting teachers on integrating the arts into the curriculum and implementing innovative arts-based teaching and learning practices and strategies.

AI Achievement Unit Credit

Arts EveryDay recognizes that the responsibilities of the Arts Integration Coach is quite demanding and sometimes challenging. With this in mind, AED has applied and been approved by Baltimore City Public Schools to offer AI Coaches one (1) AU for attending AED’s sponsored Professional Development trainings.

Arts Integration Coaches PD Requirements:

  • AI Coach must schedule one (1) school based onsite arts integration professional development for staff during the 16-17 School Year.
  • Arts EveryDay AI Coaches are required to attend a minimum of two professional development workshops hosted by Arts Every Day.

Arts Integration Coaches who have met all the AED professional development requirements during the school year and whose school has remained in compliance will be issued one (1) Achievement Unit (AU) at the end of the school year by Baltimore City Public Schools.

Scheduling On-Site, School Based Professional Development

Partner schools are required to choose and schedule (1) one PD from the AED website account for their school staff. Each PD requires 1 hour at minimum to complete and may be attended by all faculty or a team of teachers. The AI Coach should contact the Arts Integration Coordinator to schedule a on-site, school based professional development session.

AED 101: Introduction to Arts Integration

In this session, the teacher will learn strategies for integrating the arts into the curriculum, and understand the difference between arts as curriculum, arts enhanced curriculum, and arts integrated curriculum as well as explore strategies for developing a basic arts integration lesson plan. Art making is an essential learning tool of the workshop.

AED 201: Arts Integration Inclusion Engagement Training One – Science and Theatre

In this session, the teacher will learn how to integrate a non-arts core subject standard with an arts specific standard using a science-theater model. The goal of the of the workshop is to draw a parallel between the two academic subjects to enhance the student’s learning experience through arts integration. Art making is an essential learning tool of the workshop.

AED 202: Arts Integration Inclusion Engagement Training Two – Music and Social Studies

In this session, the teacher will learn how to integrate a non-arts core subject standard with an arts specific standard using a music-social model. The goal of the of the workshop is to draw a parallel between the two academic subjects to enhance the student’s learning experience through arts integration. Art making is an essential learning tool of the workshop.

AED 301: Building an Arts Integration Curriculum

In this session, the teacher will learn how to engage in a comprehensive step-by-step collaborative curriculum design process using core standards that reach across grade levels and content areas (i.e. Fine Arts Educator and Non-Arts Educator, Teaching Artist and Non-Arts Educators, Across Grade Level Team (Horizontal); and Across Content Area Team (Vertical). The goal of the workshop is to design and develop an arts integration curriculum. Art making is an essential learning tool of the workshop.

AED-Hosted Professional Development Sessions

Arts Every Day host several professional development sessions throughout the year. These sessions are designed to inform AI Coaches on various means of engaging students, building curriculum, or enhancing their current programs. AI Coaches are required to attend a minimum of two (2) sessions hosted by AED.

Note: AED Coaches must register on the City School’s website for the systemic PD events. Otherwise, the AED Coach should register on the AED website for all other PD’s.

Summer Arts Integration Institute

Arts Every Day in collaboration with Baltimore City Public School District and Maryland State Department of Education Fine Arts Office will host the Summer 2017 Maryland Center for Creative Classrooms.  The summer intensive professional development training offers pathways for arts faculty and non-arts faculty to engage, educate and immerse themselves in innovative teaching and learning methodologies in arts education, arts integration, and leadership in the arts.

Additional Professional Development Fees:

Remember each partner school receives one (1) on-site professional development workshop “free of charge”.  Additional professional development workshops range from $250 for a one (1) hour professional development or $300 for one hour and half professional development workshop.

Art Every Day offers a full range of professional development trainings that provide the participate with the following:

  1. Introduction of best practices for arts integration into the curriculum.
  2. Delivery of subject-matter core content supportive materials (i.e. handouts).
  3. Application of various teaching and learning arts-based strategies.
  4. Interactive activities such as (1) brainstorming, (2) think, pair, share, (3) buzz session solving real life challenges, and/or (4) Q & A session
